Resumen de Ortodoncia fija y caries. Investigación sobre la incidencia de caries y el uso de aparatología fija

  En el presente estudio, partimos de la hipótesis de que la aparatología fija tiene una influencia negativa sobre los mecanismos naturales de autoclisis de la placa, favoreciendo la desmineralización del esmalte. Utilizamos dos muestras: una sin y otra con tratamiento ortodóncico. En ambos casos se practica una aplicación de fluoruro sódico al 2%.

  En aquella muestra de pacientes que no han estado bajo tratamiento de ortodoncia, pero sí bajo tratamiento preventivo, se observa una reducción en el incremento del índice COS del 28,125% durante el primer año, y del 61,173% durante el segundo año.

  En la muestra de pacientes que estando bajo tratamiento preventivo han sido portadores de aparatología fija tipo multibandas, se ha observado un incremento del índice COS de un 125%, en comparación con la muestra anterior. En cambio, en aquellos pacientes que, estando bajo tratamiento preventivo, fueron portadores de aparatología fija tipo cementado directo, solamente se comprobó un incremento del índice COS de un 4,2% en relación con la primera muestra (sin tratamiento ortodóncico).

  Con ello, quedabien patente la superioridad de la aparatología fija de cementado directo en relación con los sistemas multibandas, en cuanto a su implicación sobre los mecanismos de autoclisis de la placa y, en consecuencia, la retención y acumulación de la misma.

  In the present study we start from the hipotesis that fixed appliances have a negative influence in the natural mechanism of the autocleaning of dental plaque promoting enamel demineralization.

  Two samples have been used: one with orthodontic treatment and one without. In both cases a Sodium Fluoride solution at 2 % is applied.

  In the sample of patients that have not received orthodontic treatment, but have received preventive attention, it is observed a reduction in the COS index of 28,125 % during the first year and 61,173 % during the second year. In the sample of patients that have been under preventive care and used multiband appliances, it is observed an increment of 125 % in the COS index, compared to the previous sample.

  In the group of patients being under preventive attention that have direct bonded appliances, the COS index had an increment of 4,2 % in relation to the first sample (without orthodontic treatment).

  lt becomes patent that the direct bonded appliances are superior to the multiband type of appliances in relation to the selfcleasing mechanism of dental plaque and in relation to its retention and accumulation.
