La cultura moderna y postmoderna ha intentado reconstruir sobre fundamentos subjetivos todo el mundo humano, incluso el derecho y la medicina: hasta llegar a hacer coincidir la función de las respectivas profesiones con la satisfacción de las expectativas y de los deseos de los sujetos involucrados. Las paradojas y conflictos que van multiplicándose como consecuencia de dicho planteamiento sugieren retomarse en serio el bien objetivo salud (así como el bien justicia) en cuanto lugar común externo a los sujetos, que los junta al mismo tiempo que los separa e identifica.
