    Hace 120 años se fundó en Palma (Mallorca) la sociedad ciclista Veloz Sport Balear. Dicha entidad tuvo un papel clave en el desarrollo del ciclismo español en pista gracias a su velódromo, el más importante del Estado hasta los años 60. Pero además mantuvo una sección de fútbol que fue el conjunto más importante desde los albores del fútbol isleño en 1903 hasta el nacimiento del actual RCD Mallorca en 1916. Para bien o para mal -como veremos luego- el Veloz Sport Balear ostentó el liderazgo del fútbol mallorquín.

    120 years ago the cycling society Veloz Sport Balear was founded in Palma (Majorca). This organisation played a key role in the development of Spanish track cycling thanks to its velodrome, the most important in the state until the end of the 1960’s. But it also kept a football section that was the most importan team since the dawning of football in the island in 1903 until the formation of the current RCD Mallorca en 1916. For better or worse –as we will see later– Veloz Sport Balear held the leadership in Majorca’s football.
