    José Echegaray, personalidad excepcional en la historia de España, triunfó en las principales profesiones de su vida: el cultivo de la ciencia matemática y su dedicación al teatro como dramaturgo. Como matemático siempre fue reconocido, sin embargo como dramaturgo fue muy controvertido a pesar de ser Premio Nobel de literatura 1904. Echegaray se aprestó a hacer una difícil y arriesgada transición desde el matemático al dramaturgo; para lo cual intento elaborar una estética científica paradigmática. Su destino era legitimar y explicar su sistema de producción teatral, dirigida a producir en el espectador espectaculares efectos.

    José Echegaray, an outstanding figure in the history of Spain, triumphed in the main professions of his life: the cultivation of mathematical science and his dedication to the theatre as a playwright. While he was always acknowledged as an accomplished mathematician, his role as a playwright was more controversial, in spite of receiving the Nobel Prize for literature in 1904. Echegaray took on the difficult and precarious transformation from mathematician to dramatist by attempting to elaborate a scientific and paradigmatic aesthetic ethos. He felt obliged to qualify and explain his method of theatrical production which would produce spectacular effects on the spectator.
