Resumen de L'architecture des bibliothèques à l'ère des nouvelles technologies

Laurent Baridon

  • Library Architecture in the Era of New Technologies.

Over the past twenty-five years, technological advancements and cultural changes have led to profound transformations of libraries. The digitalization of contents and the spread of networking may have led to fears of their disappearance -contradicted by the large number of libraries built all over the world. This is due to changes in practices, audiences, and use, which are much more diversified than thirty years ago. Architecture takes these changes into account through more user-friendly interior layouts and varied typologies, while striving to create appropriate symbolic forms for internal spaces and facades. However, it does not seem that contemporary architects have precisely managed to define the formal characteristics of a program with increasingly complex, contradictory and evolving requirements.
