Unlike the twentieth century, man today has abundant scientific information and due to this, it becomes increasingly difficult to find the most useful and pertinent literature to be able to understand any topic, fact or phenomenon. Hence, it is essential to develop a method that contributes to a more efficient, structured, systematic search , resulting in the location of appropriate bibliographic sources to go deeper into the study of a topic or discipline. In fact, in the last years a variety of software has been created which somehow solve the problems related to the search and location of information. In this sense, this article describes the contributions of technology to the task of researchers; especially, the benefits of those programs that allow to identify updated sources, known as bibliographic managers. This work gives an overview of these tools and their applications considered strategic and effective for the optimized search in the databases available online. It highlights strengths and aspects to be improved, as well as the advantages and disadvantages in order to contribute to the work of researchers (teachers and students) interested in building, using and understanding the information provided by the many databases available on the net.
