Epistemic cultures do not only have differing ways of dealing with contemporary literature, but also vary in the reasons to do so. By analysing the stance of U.S. German Studies towards contemporary authors and their texts in the first third of the twentieth century, the article aims to facilitate a more nuanced approach towards Gegenwartsliteraturwissenschaft in general.
