    Los estereotipos y la discriminación hacia diferentes grupos estigmatizados socialmente, y particularmente hacia las personas indígenas, ha sido importante objeto de estudio de las ciencias sociales. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar y discutir diferentes estereotipos y prácticas de discriminación dirigidas hacia las personas indígenas, identificadas en jóvenes universitarios, que se consideran a sí mismos indígenas mayas y quienes no se definen de tal manera. Este estudio es de corte cualitativo fenomenológico a través de la técnica de grupos focales. Participaron 8 grupos de estudiantes, 4 de ellos del interior del estado de Yucatán, México y los otros 4 de la ciudad de Mérida, capital del Estado. Los resultados se discuten en términos de la presencia de estereotipos positivos y negativos hacia la población indígena maya;

    además se analizan diversas prácticas de discriminación presentes en la cotidianeidad.

    Stereotypes and discrimination against different social groups stigmatized and particularly against indigenous people has been an important object of study in the social sciences. This work aims to analyze and discuss various stereotypes and discriminatory practices directed towards indigenous people, identified in university students who consider themselves indigenous Maya and who are not defined in such a way. This study is qualitative phenomenological through the focus group technique.

    Participants are 8 groups of students, 4 of them from the Yucatan State, Mexico and the other 4 from the Mérida City, the State capital. The results are discussed in terms of the presence of positive and negative stereotypes towards the indigenous Mayan people; in addition, various discriminatory practices present in everyday life are analyzed.
