C-type eclogites occur within garnet-amphibolites of the Azuaga gneisses al/ochthon in the Badajoz-Córdoba shear belt (SW Spain). The eclogites were formed under conditions of ca. 600° C, > 13 Kbar, and record a complex evolution related to various espisodes of recrystallization and deformation. The Badajoz-Córdoba shear belt may be interpreted in terms of a polyphase geodynamic evolution involving initial Upper-Proterozoic to Eé!rly Cambrian subduction, followed by continental collision, Middle Paleozoic crustal extension and intense Upper Paleozoic (Hercynian) intracontinental ductile wrenching.
