Más de mil trescientos años separan el tendido de la calzada romana de la Vía de la Plata y la fundación del pueblo cacereño de Cañaveral. La presente comunicación estudia el desvío que se veía obligado a realizar el camino real sustituto de la Vía de la Plata en buena parte de su recorrido para atravesar la localidad. Hasta las cercanías de Cañaveral, el camino real, que llegaba hasta el pueblo procedente del vado de Alconétar, en el río Tajo, seguía la calzada romana. Una vez superada la población, el camino real volvía a enlazar con la calzada para iniciar el ascenso del puerto de los Castaños. La comunicación aborda la antigüedad de este desvío y se acerca al trazado que tendría la desviación entre la Vía de la Plata y Cañaveral

More than one thousand and three hundred years separate the building of the Roman road and the founding of the town of Cañaveral.
This paper studies the deviation which the royal route, the substitute of the Via de la Plata in a large part of its itinerary, was obliged to make in order to pass through the town. The section of the Roman route which goes from the ford of Alconétar, in the river Tajo, to Cañaveral would be later known as the royal route. Once the town was left behind, the royal route linked to the road again to begin the ascent of the mountain pass of Los Castaños. This paper addresses the antiquity of this deviation and approaches the sketch of the deviation between the Via de la Plata and Cañaveral.
