Resumen de The Disabled and the Monstrous: Examples from Medieval Spain

Connie L. Scarborough

  • The distinction between the disabled and the monstrous was often blurred in Medieval literary texts. Authors were influenced by religious belief that equated a monstrous appearance with sin but this idea coexisted with the conflicting belief that the monstrous formed part of the natural order created by God. Examples from Medieval Spanish literature well illustrate these uncertainties about how to portray the physically deformed or disabled
