Prescription adalath: A novel interventional approach of clinical pharmacy services

    • Prescription Adalath is a novel system of alternative dispute resolution. It roughly means «patient’s court», where the disputes are solved regarding their medication, life style, knowledge about disease and drugs are governed by clinical pharmacist. Now a day’s service of clinical pharmacy is not focused on common man but the implementation of this program has widely benefitted the common man. This system merges the western clinical applications like medication chart review, history interview, Drug utilization evaluation, drug information patient counselling to common people. The aim of the study was to implement «Prescription Adalath» and to optimize its impact in two wards of Perinthalmanna municipality. This cross-sectional interventional study was conducted for a period of six months in two wards of Perinthalmanna municipality. Data was collected from the patients using validated questionnaire and feedback of the patients were collected after the Adalath. About 100 people participated in the study. The major health issue identified was diabetes mellitus (48.8%) followed by hypertension and dyslipidemia. About 53% of people purchased their medicine from the hospital pharmacy. For about 38.6% people relayed self- memorized regimen for timely consumption of medicines. About 79% people followed the self-medication. 97% of people were unaware of drug information center. From the prescription collected 73% were illegible. The prevalence of administration error was higher 47.2%. About 35 peoples participated in the Adalath. Most them participated to know about their diet plans 28% and about their diseases. 80% of the people were very much satisfied for information received. Main highlight of this project is the cooperation of clinical pharmacist with other healthcare professionals for uplifting the rural India Transforming the product oriented care to the patient oriented care is the main focus of «Prescription Adalath»
