  • An examination of the record made by Antonio de Beatis of Cardinal Luigi d'Aragona's 1517 journey through western Europe. Published almost a century ago, this travel diary is well known as a vivid contribution to travel literature and for its allusions to artworks and contemporary artists. The writer focuses on an overlooked correspondence about a copy of the travel diary or itinerary that de Beatis promised to make for Isabella d'Este, Marchesa of Mantua. He also examines references concerning Isabella d'Este within the text of the diary and other points that may shed some light on its composition.
