Resumen de Tommaso Malvito and Neapolitan tomb design of the early Cinquecento
The writer identifies and re-dates two substantial monuments by Tommaso Malvito da Como and sheds new light on his work as an architect and his influence on Neapolitan tomb design. The two Neapolitan works considered—the tomb of Carlo Pignatelli in the small church of S. Maria Assunta dei Pignatelli and the tomb of Bishop Bernardino Carafa in the chapel of S. Stefano in the church of S. Domenico Maggiore—are exceedingly similar. Both date from the years following 1505 and reflect the last developments of the sculptor's personal style. They should be regarded as constituting a single phase in Malvito's career.
