    Las técnicas de osteointegración han conseguido siempre mejores resultados ampliando los límites y aplicaciones de la terapia de rehabilitación protésica sobre implantes.

    Respondiendo alas siempre mayores exigencias funcionales y estéticas, también por parte de la población anciana, las investigaciones están dirigiendo su atención a esta categoría de paciente, que hasta hace poco tiempo han sido excluídos de los protocolos rehabilitativos sobre implantes. Los autores exponen en este artículo los resultados del trabajo realizado, con la casuística relativa a 184 pacientes tratados en el Hospital San Rafael de Milán, los cuales fueron diagnosticados de osteopenia y osteoporosis sistémica en base a radiografias y de Densitometría Osea Computerizada (DOC) hechos a nivel de los maxilares.

    On one hand, the constant and progressive increase in aged population pointed out by epidemiological researchers carried out on an international scale, and the greater and greater demand for qualified services capable of ensuring the patient the greatest confort, both from and aesthetical and a functional point of view, on the other hand, have determined the rapid development of dental branches, and in particular of osseointegration.

    Considering the current demographic trend a question springs up spontaneously: can osseointegration as a restorative methodology also be valid for the aged patient, with the same good change of success observed in the young patient? According to the latest experimental clinical investigations it seems that the biological phenomenon of the osseointegration is more related to the oral anatomic features, and in particular to the quality of the bone, than to the patient's age.

    The progressive increase in the use of osseointegrative methodologies is related to the definition of accurate surgicalprosthetic procedures, which are to be followed scrupulously as they are the only guarantee of clinical success.

    It is possible to examin the results of our follow up of over 180 patients, The patients have been classified in relation to their local and systemic pathological conditions of the bone.
