    Este segundo trabajo relativo a las actividades arqueológicas del conde Byron Khun de Prorok en Cartago concierne principalmente a sus excavaciones en el tofet o santuario de Tanit. Poco tiempo después de su descubrimiento en 1921, Prorok se hallaba involucrado en la recuperación del recinto, caracterizado por ser el lugar de enterramiento de miles de sujetos de edad infantil en urnas cinerarias. A fin de llevar a cabo una excavación completamente científica, Prorok incitó la fundación de un Comité internacional, gracias al cual fue posible una intervención arqueológica norteamericana en colaboración con un grupo de estudiosos franceses en 1925. Aquí se expondrán las teorías que desde el principio surgieron acerca de la funcionalidad del tofet, así como el estado de la cuestión actual en relación con el sacrificio infantil.

    This second article deals with the archaeological activities of Count Byron Khun de Prorok in Carthage, mainly concerning the excavations in the Sanctuary of Tanit -the so-called Tophet-. Shortly after its discovery in 1921, Prorok was involved in the recovery of the temenos, characterized as the burial place of thousands of children cremated and deposited in urns. In order to carry out a completely scientific excavation, Prorok promoted the institution of an international Committee in 1925. Thanks to this Committee, an American archaeological team traveled to Carthage and collaborated with a group of French scholars. I will deal with the early theories published about the Tophet functionality, as well as the recent studies regarding child sacrifice.
