En 1945 y 1970 se presentaron ante las sucesivas autoridades responsables de la vigilancia editorial en España varias solicitudes para importar o editar obras originales y traducciones de las que Jorge Luis Borges era autor o coautor. Esos expedientes reflejan el carácter anacrónico impuesto a la literatura nacional y la pobreza intelectual del régimen. Asimismo, los documentos pueden ser leídos como un caso emblemático del funcionamiento de la censura durante el franquismo y de los vínculos que tuvo ese control cultural con la industria editorial española y su expansión en América.

In 1945 and 1970, successive authorities responsible for overseeing the publishing industry in Spain received several requests to import or publish original works and translations of which Jorge Luis Borges was either the author or co-author. These documents reflect the anachronistic restrictions imposed on literature in Spain, as well as the intellectual poverty of the regime. They may also be read as emblematic of how censorship worked during the Franco regime and of the effects of cultural control on the Spanish publishing industry and its expansion in Latin America.
