  • The chapters of the 'Historia anatornica humani corporis' (1593) that the royal surgeon André Du Laurens devoted to the eye are a good example of what can be a medical text as literature. The best proove of it is that it was extensively quoted by the jesuit rhetorician Etienne Binet in his 'Essay des merveilles de la nature et des plus nobles artifices' (1621) and transformed in an eulogy of the eye. This paper tries to show how this subject and its treatment by the royal surgeon perfectly suited the aims of the christian orator.
