    El patrimoni hidràulic de la nostra ciutat inunda el nostre espai quotidià. Ës sens dubte un dels valors històrics reconeguts més important, que ens distingeix i identifica. Paradoxalment, es tracta de l'actiu cultural menys conegut i identificat, i en sonseqüècia, el més descuidat i maltractat del nostre patrimoni local. Immers en l'entorn com a part dels paisatge existent, descuidat o transformat, però sempre invisible, ha estat ignorat tot i la seua proximitatquotidiana, sense suscitar curiositat respecte a la seuaa funcionalitat, la seua tècnica o la seua història, fins a sucumbir en el temps. A finals del segle XIX, es contitueix a Elx "La Antisequía SA" societat de reg que pretèn transformar les terres de secà de les partides de Carrús, Pla de Sant Josep, Matolla i Algorós, en fèrtils camps de conreu. Per tal fi, deriven part de les aigues de la séquia Major del Pantà a l'altra banda del llit del Vinalop. El desconeixemnet i oblit generalitzat d'aquests singulars esdeveniments, fins i tot de l'origen de les restes d'aqüeductes i construccions que encara exixteixen de les seues instal·lacions, han estat el motiu del present article.

    One of the most valuable aspects of the cultural heritage of the town of Elx is, without any doubt, its nineteenth century hydraulic system. While, historically, it distinguished the town and gave it its identity, paradoxically it is the least known of our cultural assets and consequently the most neglected one. Merged into the landscape, familiar but unnoticed, its existence has roused little curiosity as to its functions, technical workings or history. At the end of the 19th Century the Anti-Drought Public Limited Company (La Antisequía S.A.) was established in Elx with the purpose of transforming non-irrigated dry land in the rural districts of Carrús, Pla de Sant Josep, Matola and Algorós into fertile farmland. This was achieved by building a canal to carry water there from the reservoir via the main irrigation canal (Séquia Major del Pantà) on the other side of the river Vinalopó. This article has been prompted by a desire to address both the general indifference to this singular event, and the lack of awareness of the architectural remains of aqueducts and constructions used in their building.
