  • The article discusses the economic policies of the Chinese President Xi Jinping within the context of the 1980s Chinese Premier Zhao Ziyang's economic market reforms, adapted from the book "Unlikely Partners: Chinese Reformers, Western Economists, and the Making of Global China," by Julian Baird Gewirtz. The 1985 cruise on the boat SS Bashan on the Yangtze River, China, in which Western economists helped devise Chinese economic policy, is discussed.
