Resumen de Manejo del paciente VIH positivo en el gabinete odontológico

  En los últimos tiempos una de las circunstancias que están cambiando más conceptos referentes a la atención odontológica de la población es la infección por VIH. La primera pregunta que podemos plantearnos es si realmente el paciente afectado por el VIH es un paciente al que se debe dispensar un trato especial, o si por el contrario sería más importante revisar los conceptos y actitudes actuales frente a todas las enfermedades transmisibles en el gabinete odontológico. Aunque opinamos que el control médico de estos pacientes es fundamental, de manera previa a su tratamiento odontológico, y sobre todo en aquellos que han desarrollado SIDA, remarcamos las normas dictadas por la FDI, y haciendo también un llamamiento a la responsabilidad profesional de los odontólogos, expresamos nuestra opinión de que ninguno de estos pacientes deberían sufrir una atención odontológica discriminativa.

  The HIV infection has changed the odontological management of the population in the last years. A first question will be asked: Must we treat HIV patients like special care patients, or must we review the management of all of our patients in the dental office? Following the instructions of FDI and our professional responsibility, we think that nobody infected by HIV must be discriminated at their odontological care, but we must be carefully with the medical implications of the HIV patients, and more carefully in those who have developed AIDS, because the systemic implications of these patients are very important in many cases.
