  The article involves the study of the hospitality within the domestic environment of a coffee plantation in the upstate countryside of the State of Sao Paulo from 1945 to 1950. The research sources include family records such as photographs, letters and menus; the main source of information being 107 letters written by a foreign woman married to the son of an immigrant who lived in Brazil. Interviews were also conducted to substantiate the study. For the analysis of the content, the sources analyzed were categorized and systematically grouped by subject. The objective was to identify the multiple roles developed by this woman that acted as a zealous and elegant hostess who enjoyed receiving visitors just as long as they were part of the circle of relationships worthy by the family’s standards.

  O artigo contempla o estudo das relações de hospitalidade no ambiente doméstico em uma fazenda de café no interior de São Paulo, de 1945 a 1950. As fontes de pesquisa reúnem documentos familiares como fotografias, cartas e menus, tendo como principal fonte 107 cartas escritas por uma mulher estrangeira, casada com filho de imigrante que vivia no Brasil. Também foram realizadas entrevistas com o intuito de enriquecer o universo estudado. As fontes analisadas foram submetidas à categorização e, sistematicamente, agrupadas por diferentes assuntos e, finalmente, pôde-se chegar à análise de seu conteúdo. Objetivou-se identificar os múltiplos papéis desenvolvidos por essa mulher que atuou como anfitriã zelosa e requintada, pois gostava de receber visitas desde que fizessem parte do círculo de relacionamento valorizado pela família.
