    This study examines certain aspects of the jingoistic celebrations of “The Constitutionalist Revolution” of 1932, going back to the roots of its commemoration in the 1930’s. Considering how unfavourable the outcome was to the rebels, questions arise about the historical conditions that transformed a military defeat into a moral victory. These questions permeate the whole text, which brings to light the interesting process of the state’s post-rebellion recuperation, imposing a new power division in the Provisional Government. The struggle over the historical memory in this occasion plays an integral role in giving a boost to the State of São Paulo’s political reorganization, and further along it seizes the advantage of the construction of an acclaimed social place of the “Constitutionalist Revolution”.

    Este artigo dedica-se a discutir alguns aspectos da celebração ufanista da “Revolução Constitucionalista” de 1932, retomando, para tanto, as raízes desta comemoração nos limiares dos anos trinta. Tendo em vista que o resultado do confronto foi desfavorável aos insurrectos, indaga-se a respeito das condições históricas que permitiram a transmutação de uma derrota bélica em vitória moral. Esta questão perpassa todo o texto, trazendo à tona o rico processo de recuperação estadual posterior à revolta e que, ao contrário dela, impõe ao Governo Provisório uma nova partilha do poder. A batalha pela memória que se vivencia neste cenário ocupa papel de destaque, à medida que, num primeiro momento, ela confere alento à reorganização política de São Paulo, no ambiente seguinte goza de privilégios que erigem, narcisicamente, o lugar social de consagração da “Revolução Constitucionalista”.
