Resumen de O ex-abolicionista: A memória da escravidão no jornal O Athleta – 1884

  This study has two objectives: first to analyze a short story published in the journal, The Athleta in 1884 as a contribution to the memory of the social history of slavery. The Athleta, a newspaper published in Porto Alegre, published in its September 7th 1884 issue, a narrative on the commemoration of the Independence Day festivities, as well as on the abolition of slavery in Porto Alegre. The tale, The Ex-abolitionist, is important to the historiography of abolition, because it resituates the social condition of the slave and the free citizen in the realm of fiction, and establishes the emergence of a new social locus for the exslave.The second objective of this study is to disseminate awareness of the journal’s short story and make it available for further analyses.

  Este artigo possui dois objetivos, o primeiro é analisar um conto publicado no jornal O Athleta, em 1884, como contribuição à memória da história social da escravidão. O Athleta , jornal publicado em Porto Alegre nesse número especial de 7 de setembro de 1884 trata das festividades pela passagem da independência, bem como da abolição da escravidão, em Porto Alegre. O conto “O ex-abolicionista” é importante para a historiografia da abolição, pois reconduz para o âmbito da ficção a condição social de escravo para cidadão livre e, nessa passagem, pode-se observar o surgimento novo lócus social destinado ao ex-escravo. O segundo objetivo é a divulgação do periódico e do conto disponibilizando-os para outras análises.
