IK4-CIDETEC ha desarrollado una nueva generación de resinas epoxi termoestables dinámicas capaces de repararse, reprocesarse y reciclarse mediante la incorporación de enlaces reversibles. Estas nuevas resinas se han incorporado para la fabricación de materiales compuestos reforzados tanto con fibra de vidrio como con fibra de carbono de altas prestaciones. Se ha demostrado que estos nuevos composites presentan las mismas propiedades mecánicas que los composites termoestables convencionales, pero a diferencia de éstos últimos son reciclables, reparables y reprocesables, lo que supone todo un avance y la creación de nuevas oportunidades para el sector
Fiber-reinforced polymer composites (FRPCs) based on thermoset epoxy resins are a class of high-performance structural materials with a great potential in a broad variety of industrial sectors. Their difficulties for reprocessing, repairing or recycling, which are inherent to their thermoset nature, are however limiting their fast growth in applications such as automotive. As an approach to solve such limitations, a novel “dynamic” epoxy network based on reversible chemical crosslinks has been developed by IK4-CIDETEC. FRPCs made of such dynamic resin possess good mechanical properties, while showing reprocessability, reparability and recyclability. In addition, the new FRPCs are easily synthesized from readily available materials, and they could, therefore, be easily implemented in automotive and transportation industry among others
