Excluded from the Record. Women, Refugees and Relief 1914- 1929
Katherine Storr
Oxford : Peter Lang, 2010
Despite the fact that the twentieth century is often referred to as 'the century of the refugee', historical re earch on refugee relief and humanitarian activism is limited and the signilicant part played by women both within the UK and as relief worker abroad is particularly under-recognized. Katherine Storr addresses this silence for the period of the First World War and the following decade, with a particular focus on the relationship between women's campaigns for suffrage and their participation m relief work, and the close connections between suffragists and Quakers in particular.
