Análisis de la relación entre linfocitos y plasmocitos en la pared blanda de la bolsa periodontal de pacientes con periodontitis marginal del adulto

    Se estudiaron 33 biopsias de otros tantos pacientes con Periodontitis Marginal del Adulto (PMA) con el objeto de cuantificar el número de linfocitos y de plasmocitos del infiltrado inflamatorio en relación con la forma clínica y la evolución del cuadro. De este estudio se concluyó lo siguiente: I) la inflamación es más intensa y más rica en células en los casos avanzados que en los incipientes; II) en la variedad incipiente claramente predominan los linfocitos sobre los plasmocitos, siendo esta diferencia más notable en la zona marginal que en el fondo de la bolsa; III) en la variedad avanzada la proporción de linfocitos y plasmocitos es, aproximadamente, igual tanto en la zona marginal como en el fondode la bolsa; IV) un porcentaje significativo con la forma incipiente (29,4%) y de casos avanzados (43,7%) mostraron signos inflamatorios enla pared blanda de la bolsa sugerentes de una reagudización del proceso inflamatorio.

    Histological sections of 33 biopsies of soft tissue of the periodontal pocket of patients with adult periodontal disease were used for a quantitative differential count of the number of lymphocytes and plasma cells in the inflammatory infiltrate. The results showed the following facts: 1) the inflammation was heavier and more cellular in the advanced cases as compared with the initial ones; II) a clear predominance of lymphocytes over plasma cells was observed in the initial stages, specially in the marginal zone as compared with the depth zone of the pocket; III) in the advanced cases the proportion of lymphocytes and plasma cells was about the same either in the marginal zone or in the depth zone of the pocket; iv) a significant amount of patients in the initial stages (29.4%) and of those in advanced stages (43.7%) showed histological signs in the soft wall of the pocket suggesting a process of acute activation of the inflammatory process.
