    This article presents and discusses academic writing practice in English as a foreign language and in Portuguese (students’ first language) for engineering undergraduate students. In English, the aim of the study is the production of scientific abstracts in the hard sciences area. If we consider that writing can be related to the learners’ subjective constitution, when developing writing tasks in Portuguese, the aim is to motivate students to the research and writing of an article or academic monograph in the humanities fields.

    O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar a prática de escrita de textos acadêmicos em inglês (língua estrangeira) e em português (língua materna) junto a graduandos em Engenharias. Em inglês, o trabalho visa a desenvolver a produção do gênero resumo científico, de modo especial, em textos da área de Ciências Exatas. Entendendo que operar a escrita é lidar sobretudo com a constituição subjetiva do aprendiz, em português, a meta é motivar os alunos para a pesquisa e escrita de dois textos longos que são um projeto de pesquisa e um artigo ou uma monografia sobre temas nas áreas de Ciências Humanas.
