La Baltasara fue una célebre actriz entre finales del siglo XVI y principios del XVII, que dejó los escenarios para retirarse a vivir en una ermita hasta su muerte. Este suceso fue recuperado varios años más tarde por Luis Vélez de Guevara, Antonio Coello y Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla como argumento para una de las comedias que los tres dramaturgos escribieron en colaboración, titulada con el nombre de la actriz. A lo largo de este artículo, se presentan varios datos documentales con los que se pretende aportar información sobre la actriz y su retiro. Asimismo, se analizan los motivos y elementos dramáticos que configuran la pieza, tomados de uno de los géneros más exitosos en la época: las comedias de santos.
La Baltasara was a famous actress at the end of the sixteenth century and the beginning of the seventeenth, who retired from the stage to live in a hermitage until her death. This event was recovered by Luis Vélez de Guevara, Antonio Coello and Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla as the basis for the plot of one of their plays which was written in collaboration and titled with the actress’s name.
Throughout this article, various documents are presented to give information on the actress and her retirement. Likewise, the topics and elements which shape the play, taken from one of the most successful genres, hagiographic play, are analyzed.
