  • Reinforcement of the continuing relevance of organic chemistry in the modern world offers powerful stimulus to student motivation. A significant way to boost relevance involves demonstrating the huge impact upon humanity of extracts from organic substances obtained in the natural environment that find application in medicinal compounds, beverages, processed food, dyes, textiles, cosmetics and fragrances. These themes provide rich context for the GCE A-level curriculum in chemistry: inspiring, informing and extending students while helping them gain appreciation of the vital importance of organic compounds in the natural world and to humankind.
