    It is well-known how much Chamfort’s anthropology inspired Nietzsche : the French author probably conceived an early model of the superman by means of his brave nihilism and his praise for serene loneliness. By delving into the connection between the thinking of Chamfort and that of Rousseau, this paper studies how the concept of the retreat is treated by the author of Produits de la civilisation perfectionnée, from the suffering (for health reasons) to the desired situation, from the justification for matters of mood to the philosophical justification
