    • Energy is an important idea in all branches of science and its understanding is recognised as a major learning objective of science teaching. It is such an important and basic concept that a variety of attempts have been made to introduce it at an earlier stage in the teaching of science. When should we start teaching energy? In this article, some guiding principles for a vertical curriculum, from elementary up to secondary school, are presented.
