    This article examines Renaissance ideals of feminine beauty and how these are portrayed in Portuguese literature, more specifically in the novel Menina e Moça by Bernardim Ribeiro. The article addresses not only the complex and often contradictory nature of feminine beauty, but also its integration and discussion in this novel. As the novel progresses, it exposes, questions and dismantles current concepts. Ultimately, the text reveals the fallacies of beauty and offers ugliness as the only refuge to women.

    Este artigo examina ideais renascentistas de beleza feminina e como estes se encontram representados na literatura portuguesa, especificamente na novela "Menina e Moça" de Bernardim Ribeiro. O artigo aborda não só a natureza complexa e, muitas vezes, contraditória que define a beleza feminina, mas também como esta se integra e se discute na novela. Á medida que a novela se amplia, expõem-se, questionam-se e desmantelam-se os conceitos vigentes. Por último, o texto revela as falácias da beleza feminina e oferece a fealdade como o único subterfúgio para a mulher.
