El desarrollo actual de turismo y sus repercusiones justifican la necesidad de disponer de adecuadas estadísticas a él referentes. El turismo es uno de los fenómenos de mayor trascendencia en la actualidad, por las variadas repercusiones que presenta en el orden social y económico de los países tanto receptores como proveedores de contingentes turísticos importantes. Por ello los Gobiernos han prestado la debida atención al desarrollo de este fenómeno, señalando unas directrices que fijen y encaucen la política más conveniente.

To begin with-this survey outlines brief considerations ponting out the importance of tourism nowdays and therefore the convinience of its numerical study. Oour attention is brought to the international requests aimmg the attainment of uniformity concerning the methods and operations dealing with the statistical analysis of this phenomena and its characteristics.
On the second place an outline is given regarding the statistical plan for Tourism drafted by the National Board for Statistics in Spain followed by an account on the statistics and canvasses aohieved by this center together with other ones notably those carried through by the Institut for Tourism Research.
Finally we find an appraisal of the accomplishments stretching out the significance of the said plan in order to a complete development of statistical researoh work on this field. This will enable a qualified knowlidge concerning in flowing as well as national, social and juvenile tourism, thus creating an essential ground of judgement driving to fix the prospects and the aims of spanish touristic policy.
