    An examination of the crisis of the Late Middle Ages in Catalonia reviews the differing interpretations of this period, including the concept of crisis per se because there have been huge, almost opposed changes in perspective regarding this period over the last fifty and a bit years. And if, at that time, crisis was seen as a long period that was difficult to resolve and with a scope that covered almost all historical areas, now this problem has become a lot shorter. Because now it tends to be seen as a necessary parenthesis, no matter how tough or more or less drawn out it may be. Nevertheless, it is a period after which an economic, social and cultural renaissance came to Europe and also to Catalonia, in spite of the fact that, here, the Civil War of 1462-1472 and its later consequences delayed the progress that was so desired. For this reason, this paper underlines the work of those essential historians studying the Catalan crisis, either in terms of its economic or social aspects, its political or institutional aspects or even in a small epilogue. One which adds the later arrival, in certain royal courts and bureaucratic places, of a Castilian language that gradually penetrated Catalonia, presided over by the burgeoning aura of the Castilian crown and kingdom and with indirect support from the nascent Spanish Inquisition of 1478.

    Una aproximació a la crisi de la baixa edat mitjana a Catalunya sintetitza les distintes interpretacions que sobre aquesta època s’han fet, incloent el concepte de crisi. Perquè sobre aquest concepte els canvis de perspectiva en els darrers cinquanta i escaig anys han estat immensos, gairebé contraposats. I si aleshores per crisi s’entenia un període allargat, difícil de sortir-se’n d’ell, i amb un abast que recorria quasi totes les àrees històriques, ara el problema s’escurça molt en el temps. Perquè ara vol entendre’s com un parèntesi necessari per molt dur i més o menys dilatat que fos, passat el qual un renaixement econòmic, social i cultural s’apropava a Europa i també a Catalunya, malgrat que aquí la Guerra Civil de 1462-1472 i les seves conseqüències posteriors retardaren l’increment tan desitjat. Per tot això, aquest treball subratlla l’obra dels historiadors bàsics en el coneixement de la crisi catalana, ja sigui en els aspectes econòmics i socials, ja en els polítics i institucionals, ja fi ns i tot en un petit epíleg que hi afegeix l’arribada més tardana a certs llocs cortesans i burocràtics reials d’una llengua castellana que va introduint-se a Catalunya a poc a poc, però presidida de l’aura potencial de la Corona i el regne castellans i amb un suport indirecte de la naixent Inquisició estatal de 1478.
