Resumen de Empatía y solidaridad transnacional: Reflexiones en torno a una conferencia de Carol C. Gould

El aumento de la agresividad y la popularización de “ideales” psicopáticos en la sociedad actual ha contribuido a focalizar el interés de la psicología y la filosofía política sobre la noción de empatía, a fin de restablecer el equilibrio en las relaciones humanas. Este artículo reconstruye brevemente su historia, desde Aristóteles hasta E. Stein, en una línea que pasa por Rousseau, Herder, Fichte, los románticos, Dilthey y Husserl. La empatía nace con el vínculo materno-filial intrauterino y constituye la base emocional que permite articular la intersubjetividad y, por tanto, el sentido del mundo y de la vida en sociedad. Como tal, es una capacidad neutra que puede encaminarse en distintas direcciones y depende para su desarrollo de la educación y del contacto con otros seres humanos. En este contexto, se analiza la propuesta de justicia poética de Nussbaum y las posibilidades de la empatía para generar la solidaridad a distancia.

The increase of aggressiveness and the popularization of psychopathic “ideals” all over the world contributed to focusing the current interests of the Psychology and the Political Philosophy on the notion of empathy, attempting to restore balance in the human relationships. This paper briefly reconstructs its history, from Aristotle to Stein, in a line that goes through Rousseau, Herder, Fichte, the romantics, Dilthey and Husserl. The empathy arises from the intrauterine maternofilial link and it constitutes the emotional basis that let the intersubjectivity articulate. As a consequence, it allows also to give a meaning to the empirical world and to the life in society. In this regard, empathy is a neutral faculty that moves in different directions. Its development depends on the education and the contact among human beings. In this context, the paper analyzes Nussbaum´s proposal for a poetic justice and the possibilities of empathy in order to generate solidarity with distant Others.
