En esta investigación, las autoras tratan como mitos lingüísticos las opiniones de los hablantes sobre las características atribuidas a las diversas variedades regionales del español. Se observan los resultados sobre Costa Rica y se integran los de los demás países hispanohablantes integrados al proyecto LIAS de la Universidad de Bergen. Se llegan a establecer los siguientes mitos:
Mito 1: El español de España es el mejor por ser la cuna del idioma y viene de la “madre patria”.
Mito 2: Se da una exaltación del patriotismo mediante el chauvinismo lingüístico.
Mito 3: Estados Unidos sigue siendo el sueño, el país de las oportunidades, muy relacionado con altos recursos económicos.
Mito 4: Dentro de España, el habla más correcta es la de los dialectos septentrionales y la menos correcta es la de los dialectos meridionales.

This research deals with linguistic myths based on opinions about Spanish varieties. The results from Costa Rica and the other Spanish-speaking areas were extracted from the LIAS Bergen's University Project. We established the following linguistic myths:
Myth 1: Spanish from Spain is the best variety because it’s the original and native language.
Myth 2: There is linguistic chauvinism because of a patriotic feeling.
Myth 3: The USA is still the dreamland, and the land of opportunities, related with a high standard of life.
Myth 4: Within Spain, the most correct speech variety comes from the North and the most incorrect one from the Southern dialects
