El artículo expone las potencialidades del e-learning en sus diversas modalidades para responder a las necesidades de educación permanente en américa Latina. Describe cinco modalidades de cursos e-learning:virtuales con tutor, autoformativos, webinars, massive online open courses (MOOC) y mixtos o híbridos. Valora las bondades y limitaciones de la modalidad más generalizada de los MOOC que son, sin lugar a duda, uno de los protagonistas actuales en el mundo del e-learning, y advierte de sus sesgos hacia una especie de “darwinismo pedagógico”. Concluye remarcando la importancia de la figura del tutor o intermediario educativo

The article exposes potencialities of e-learning in its diverse forms to answer to educational needs that are always present in Latin America. Describes five forms of e-learning courses: virtual with a tutor, self formative, webinars, massive online open courses (MooC), and mixed or hybrid. Assesses the benefits and limitations of the most widespread form of MooC that are, with no doubt, one of the current main characters in the e-learning world and warns about the biases toward a form of “pedagogic darwinism” and concludes remarking the importance of the tutor’s or intermediary figure
