Resumen de Las mujeres y la medicina en la Edad Media y primer Renacimiento

  No resulta fácil reconstruir la historia de las prácticas sanadoras efectuadas por las mujeres durante la Edad Media y primera parte del Renacimiento, pues lo que los historiadores se han encargado de transmitirnos de forma habitual es una serie de tópicos que en su inmensa mayoría no se sustentan si se examinan de modo riguroso. La única vía para poder desmontarlos es rastrear las fuentes, leerlas e interpretarlas en su contexto general y de la manera más objetiva posible. En este escrito recogemos algunos de los tópicos más insistentemente repetidos, al tiempo que nos hacemos eco de los esfuerzos realizados por la historiografía reciente para tratar de situar esas prácticas y a esas mujeres en el sitio que realmente les corresponde.

  Reconstructing the history of the healing practices carried out by women all along the Middle Ages and the Renaissance’s first part is not an easy task, since historians have mostly and regularly informed about a series of clichés that, when accurately examined, do not usually rest on a solid foundation.

  The only way to prove those clichés invalid is by examining the original resources, reading and interpreting them in their general context and in the most objective way. In this paper we collect some of the most insistently repeated clichés and we expose the efforts made by recent historiography in order to try to place those practices and those women where they really belong in history.
