Entry into force 1st July NEW REGULATIONS TO VERIFY THE GROSS MASS OF CONTAINERS PRIOR TO VESSEL LOADING Summary: The 1st July saw the entry into force of a new International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulation requiring the mandatory verification and certification of the gross mass of packed containers. The objective is to avoid incidents resulting from a discrepancy in the gross mass declared by shippers and the actual gross mass of a packed container loaded in port terminals which have played no small role in marine casualties and incidents. The aim is to enhance safety at sea and in port operations.
