    Este artículo aborda el desarrollo urbano-histórico de las ciudades Latinoamericana, que se caracterizan por la conformación de genes tipológicos formales e informales. Se propone como objetivo principal, describir el desarrollo urbano-histórico de las ciudades Latinoamericanas, a partir de la conformación de los asentamientos informales verticales. La estrategia metodológica se encuentra fundamentada en las teorías de diferentes autores; a través de la revisión bibliográfica, utilizando un tipo de investigación descriptiva, documental; con un diseño no experimental, transversal. Finalmente, se plantea que las periferias verticales Latinoamericana se han tratado de forma paternalista, tangencial, generalista limitando la compresión la de segregación socio/espacial que tienden a diluir y fragmentar el tejido urbano produciendo las construcciones y reconstrucciones auto-gestionadas, sin planificación.

    In this article is approached the urban-historical development of the Latin American cities, which are characterized by the formation of formal and informal typological genes. It is proposed as main objective, to describe the urban-historical development of Latin American cities, from the formation of vertical informal settlements. The methodological strategy is based on the theories of different authors; through the literature review, using a kind of descriptive, documentary research; with a nonexperimental, transversal design. Finally, it is proposed that the Latin American verticals peripheries have been treated in a paternalist, tangential, generalist limiting compression of social / spatial segregation that tend to dilute and fragment the urban fabric produce the constructions and self-managed reconstruction, without planning.
