    El presente trabajo pretende un acercamiento a la geografía física de la cuenca del Guadaiza (Marbella, Málaga). Nuestro estudio estará dirigido, esencialmente, a la zona de los valles alto y medio, que escapan de la humanización del curso bajo, identificado totalmente con el paisaje urbano de la Costa del Sol, objeto ya de anteriores estudios. La composición litológica de esta cuenca, a base de peridotitas del complejo ultramáfico de Sierra Bermeja, y rocas metamórficas, la atormentada orografía y la pobreza de los suelos, la benignidad de las temperaturas y la abundancia de precipitaciones, con termotipos del supramediterráneo al termomediterráneo, y ombrotipos del hiperhúmedo al subhúmedo, han propiciado una excelente conservación de la cobertera vegetal, con varias series de vegetación identificables dentro de los sectores Aljíbico y Bermejense, subsectores Marbellí y Bermejense, respectivamente, y la existencia de numerosos endemismos vegetales. Como parte integrante del macizo ultrabásico de Sierra Bermeja, esta cuenca participa de la riqueza medioambiental del territorio en que se inscribe, y necesita de urgentes medidas de protección que aseguren la conservación de estos valores, en peligro permanente por la presión demográfica y urbanística de la aglomeración costera.

    The present work attempts to take a closer look at the physical geography of the Guadaiza basin (Marbella, Málaga). Our study deals essentially with the areas of the upper and mid-valley which are free from human influence, unlike the lower part of the watercourse which can be completely identified with the urban landscape of the Costa del Sol, the subject of previous studies. Several factors have been favourable towards the excellent conservation of the vegetation cover of the basin: its lithological make-up based on perodititic rocks of the Sierra Bermeja ultramafic massif and metamorphic rocks, the abrupt relief and the poor quality of the soil, mild temperatures and abundance of rainfall with supra-mediterranean and termo-mediterranean termotypes and the ombrotypes ranging from hyper-humid to sub-humid. There are various identifiable vegetation series within the Aljibe and Bermeja sectors and, respectively, the subsectors of Marbella and Bermeja, with numerous endemic plants in existence. As an integral part of the ultrabasic Sierra Bermeja massif, this basin shares the environmental richness of the territory it falls within; it urgently needs conservation measures which will ensure the preservation of its value against the constant danger caused by the demographic and urban pressure coming from the coast.
