Ampliación de la descripción y aspectos taxonómicos de Heliopsis longipes (Asteraceae: Heliantheae)

    Heliopsis longipes es la especie con mayor importancia económica de su género, pues su raíz tiene varios usos tradicionales en México. Sin embargo, aún se desconocen algunos aspectos de su morfología y biología. Los objetivos de este trabajo fueron: a) ampliar la descripción botánica de la especie, b) discutir las diferencias de H. longipes con algunos de sus congéneres, y c) documentar su fenología. Heliopsis longipes se distingue por su hábito ascendente a decumbente, hojas ovado-oblongas, el pedúnculo relativamente largo y es microendémica en las sierras de Álvarez y Gorda. Morfológicamente presenta más afinidades con H. procumbens. La reproducción de H. longipes ocurre durante la época húmeda del año.

    Heliopsis longipes is, economically, the most important species of its genus, because its root has several traditional uses in Mexico. However, there are still unknown aspects of their morphology and biology. The objectives of this study were: a) to expand the botanical description of the species, b) to discuss the differences of H. longipes with some congeners, c) to document their phenology. Heliopsis longipes has an ascending to decumbent habit, ovate-oblong leaves and the stem is relatively long and it is microendemic in Sierra Alvarez and Sierra Gorda. Morphologically, it has more affinities with H. procumbens. The reproduction of H. longipes occurs during the wet season of the year.
