• The article discusses the role of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the global food system. It highlights the international dimension of food program which has responsibility for the safety, composition and labeling of all human and animal food products. It offers information on the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) of the FDA which directs a complete overhaul of the U.S. food safety system to be more effective in preventing foodborne illnesses
