The Roman orator and teacher of rhetoric Marcus Fabius Quintilian was one of the most influential classical authors in the development of European Humanism. In this paper we discuss the presence of Quintilian between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries in Portugal, to verify that there were many Portuguese intellectuals who knew and applied the teachings of this ancient roman writer
