The objective is to discuss the intersemiotic relations between the novel Cidade de Deus (1997) by Paulo Lins and the namesake film by Fernando Meirelles.
We intend to investigate the specific technical language in each type of narrative, emphasizing their contexts - 1997 and 2002 - and considering this version as a translation of the novel, since the film carries with it an authentic message.
When we read and watch Cidade de Deus, the discontentment with the existence resembles an anguished cry of those who see the human being in unbearable condition. In the tragic vision of life lies the irreversibility of time experience, the suffering with the mystery of life and human abandonment.

Objetiva-se discutir as relações intersemióticas entre o romance Cidade de Deus (1997) de Paulo Lins e o filme homónimo de Fernando Meirelles. Pretende-se investigar as técnicas específicas de linguagem em cada tipo de narrativa, enfatizando seus contextos - 1997 e 2002 - e considerando tal versão como uma tradução do romance, já que o filme encerra em si uma mensagem autêntica.
Quando lemos e assistimos Cidade de Deus, o descontentamento com a existência assemelha-se a um grito angustiado de quem vê o ser humano numa condição insuportável. Na visão trágica da existência se situa a irreversibilidade da experiência do tempo, a angústia diante do mistério da vida e o abandono humano.
