  • Resumen
    • Ludovico Seitz. Drawings and documents in the Episcopal Seminary Library in Treviso.

The catalogue presents the precious, unpublished collection of drawings by the painter Lodovico Seitz (1844-1908), held in the Episcopal Seminary Library in Treviso. Most of the sheets correspond to the frescoes then painted by the artist in the Tedesca Chapel in Loreto basilica.

The drawings came by donation from Seitz's wife to Giovanni Milanese, who was canon of the Treviso cathedral (where Seitz frescoed four compositions from 1880 to 1888) and became a friend and theological consultant to the painter. The publication of these drawings, together with other unpublished docuemnts, allows us to reflect not only on the work of Seitz, heir to the Nazarene tradition, but also the state of art in the nineteenth century, in particular on questions relating to wall painting in a climate of wars, evolutions and especially "involutions".
