El topónimo, el castillo y los recintos ganaderos de Ayerbe

    En este trabajo tratamos tres cuestiones sobre la historia y el patrimonio histórico y arqueológico de Ayerbe (Huesca). Por una parte, el origen vascón del topónimo “Ayerbe” que significa “(población situada) al pie de una pendiente”. Después, hemos recogido la escasa información que se conoce sobre el castillo de Ayerbe (Os Muros), fortificación islámica de frontera perteneciente a la línea defensiva que protegía los territorios y ciudades de la taifa de Saraqusta que, luego, siguió siendo castillo con iglesia tras su conquista por el rey de Aragón Sancho Ramírez, analizando también los restos arquitectónicos del castillo en relación con los pocos estudios que hay sobre el mismo. Finalmente, hemos identificado unas extensas estructuras que se sitúan cerca del castillo como recintos para guardar ganado, en relación con la importancia ganadera que tuvo durante siglos la localidad de Ayerbe.

    In this work we treat three topics on the history and the historical and archaeological patrimony of Ayerbe (Huesca). On one hand, the Vascon origin of the toponym “Ayerbe” that means “(town located) to the foot of a slope”. Later, we have picked up the scarce information that is known about the castle of Ayerbe (Os Muros), Islamic fortification of frontier belonging to the defensive line that protected the territories and cities of the taifa of Saraqusta (Zaragoza) that, later, it continued being castle with church after their conquest for the king from Aragon Sancho Ramírez, also analyzing the architectural remains of the castle in connection with the few studies that there is about the same one. Finally, we have identified some extensive structures that are located near the castle like enclosures to keep livestock, in connection with the cattle importance that had during centuries the town of Ayerbe.
