  Terra em transe, de Glauber Rocha, será analisado como tradução do contraditó- rio cenário político, intelectual e estético brasileiro do pós-golpe de 1964 - turbulento período histórico marcado, simultaneamente, pela repressão e pela violência do governo militar ditatorial, pela crise econômica e por movimentos de conscientização política, social e artística.

  Serão discutidos os seguintes temas problematizados no filme: os reflexos do complexo subdesenvolvimento latinoamericano e seu vínculo com o capital internacional e com o populismo, a fragilidade tanto de governos populistas quanto da esquerda, o fim das utopias libertárias.

  Engajamento, estética revolucionária e papel do intelectual condensados no universo conflituoso e poético da personagem Paulo Martins representam a síntese do Brasil em transe no filme que marca a maturidade do Cinema Novo.

  The film Terra em transe (World in trance), by Glauber Rocha, will be considered as a translation of the contradictory political, intellectual and aesthetic Brazilian scenery of the 1964 post-coup - a turbulent historical period marked by both repression and violence of the dictatorial military government, by the economic crisis, and by movements for political, social and artistic awareness. The following themes, tackled in the film, will be discussed: the repercussions of the complex Latin American underdevelopment and its link with international capital and populism, with the fragility of both populist governments and the left-wing parties, and with the end of libertarian utopias. Engagement, aesthetics and revolutionary role of the intellectual condensed in the conflicted and poetic universe of the character Paulo Martins represent the synthesis of Brazil in a trance depicted in the film that marks the maturity of the Cinema Novo (New Cinema)
