    La ciudad en la que nació y vivió Santa Teresa no era, según los parámetros de la época, ni pequeña, ni excesivamente nobiliaria o levítica, sino que –además de hidalgos y clérigos– contaba con una activa burguesía. Se analizan algunos personajes representativos relacionados con Santa Teresa, así como algunas características de la ciudad que ayudan a entender mejor a nuestra santa:

    su vinculación con el entorno rural, el aceptable nivel cultural de su población, la marginación de la mujer y la cuestión de la "limpieza de sangre".

    The city in which St. Teresa was born and lived was not, according to the patterns of the time, either small, or excessively noble or religious, but –in addition to lower nobility and clerics– it had an active bourgeoisie. Here we analyse certain representative personages related to St. Teresa, as well as some characteristics of the city that can help us better to understand our Saint: its bonds with the rural milieu, the acceptable cultural level of its population, the discrimination of women, and the issue of "racial purity" or "clean blood".
